A young girl, vacationing with her family, is currently in critical condition in the hospital after reportedly being left unattended in a hotel pool in Rhodes.
Law enforcement officials reported that the child was discovered around noon at a hotel in Lardos on the Greek island of Rhodes. Surveillance footage allegedly showed the toddler entering the pool alone, and approximately ten minutes later, a sunbather noticed the child in the water.
A woman, believed to be a British doctor, leaped into action to assist the three-year-old, pulling her out of the water and administering life-saving CPR until emergency services arrived. Medical professionals worked to stabilize the child before transferring her to Rhodes Hospital in a critical state. Subsequently, she was airlifted to the University Hospital in Heraklion, Crete, where neurosurgeons conducted a procedure to alleviate brain pressure. The girl is currently under intensive care.
Authorities in Rhodes disclosed that the girl’s uncle, who was responsible for supervising her, and the travel agency manager, accountable for hotel guests, were apprehended two hours later. They were brought before the Rhodes District Court Prosecutor and faced charges.
Rhodes Hospital Director, Michalis Sokorelos, mentioned that the child had likely been submerged in the water for an extended period and exhibited no response upon arrival.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is assisting the family of the girl and maintaining communication with Greek authorities.
