A man convicted of brutally stabbing his girlfriend multiple times was sentenced to life in prison after shouting derogatory terms during his court appearance. Michael Ormandy, 34, received the life sentence for the murder of 32-year-old Rebekah Campbell in Merseyside. The victim was found covered in blood outside her flat, having sustained 18 stab wounds and nine additional knife slashes.
Before the fatal attack, Rebekah reportedly pleaded with Ormandy to leave her residence as he barged in wearing a bulletproof vest. Despite claiming self-defense, Ormandy only suffered a minor cut on his hand during the altercation. Days prior, he had assaulted his partner and engaged in intimate relations with another woman.
Following the incident, Ormandy made false claims to authorities and displayed erratic behavior. Rebekah’s mother expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her daughter, highlighting Rebekah’s caring nature and close relationship with her family. Ormandy’s sentencing was met with outbursts from the gallery, to which he responded with insults.
Detective Superintendent Ben Dyer commended the victim’s family for their resilience during the trial and criticized Ormandy for his deceitful defense tactics. Ormandy’s imprisonment brings closure to the case and ensures community safety.
