Must read

Wetherspoon has revealed intentions to establish a new pub at a university campus. The renowned pub chain will manage Joe’s at the University of Birmingham through a collaboration with the Guild of Students. Named after the university’s iconic clock tower, Joe’s will maintain its operations under the Guild of Students’ management.

Scheduled for an opening in Easter 2026 after extensive renovations, the new establishment will offer the complete Wetherspoon food and beverage menu, featuring weekly specials like the Thursday Curry Club. With nearly 800 pubs nationwide, Wetherspoon inaugurated its first university pub at Hull University in 2022.

John Hutson, the chief executive of Wetherspoon, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the Guild of Students, stating, “We are thrilled to have partnered with the Guild of Students and are eager to collaborate in making Joe’s Bar a resounding success.”

Antonia Listrat, the President of the University of Birmingham Guild of Students, highlighted the benefits of the partnership with Wetherspoon for students, emphasizing the value-for-money offerings and increased job opportunities within the bar. She emphasized that any surplus generated would be reinvested to support student activities, strengthening commercial initiatives for the Guild’s future and enriching the student experience.

In addition to the University of Birmingham project, Wetherspoon is set to unveil six new pubs by mid-January. This development follows the recent launch of its Christmas menu, featuring the return of the popular turkey dinner option. The festive menu includes a turkey feast comprising various accompaniments, with prices slightly higher than the previous year.

Despite reporting improved sales and profits, Tim Martin, the Wetherspoon boss, pledged to minimize price hikes amidst industry challenges. He acknowledged the impact of tax increases but affirmed the company’s commitment to keeping price adjustments to a minimum. The Christmas menu will be available until December 31, offering customers a range of festive dining options.
