Jake Paul’s promotional company has issued a statement in response to allegations against his upcoming opponent, Gervonta Davis. The accusations include battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend of Davis.
Despite the controversy, the exhibition bout between Paul and Davis is scheduled to take place in Miami on November 14. Notably, Davis competes in the lightweight division while Paul fights in the cruiserweight category. The match will not impact their professional records, but a winner will be determined either by stoppage or by a panel of human judges and an AI official in case of a full fight.
Speculations arose about Paul reaching out to Ryan Garcia as a replacement for Davis following the allegations. However, Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s promotional company, clarified that no decision has been finalized yet. The company initiated an investigation upon being informed of the civil lawsuit against Davis in Miami-Dade County on October 30, 2025. They are currently gathering information to ensure a well-considered decision is made, condemning all forms of violence.
Davis has not directly responded to the accusations, but his trainer, Calvin Ford, dismissed them as baseless. The lawsuit alleges that Davis assaulted his ex-partner, Courtney Rossel, at her workplace on October 27, with prior threats of violence. Rossel claims to have been physically assaulted and choked by Davis on multiple occasions, seeking damages of $50,000 and a jury trial.
In the midst of these developments, a potential fight between Paul and Garcia has been ruled out by promoter Oscar De La Hoya due to contractual obligations. Paul might postpone his return to the ring to December and has previously been linked to heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. However, a swift agreement seems unlikely given the current circumstances.
