Details have emerged regarding the severe mistreatment suffered by a newborn, as a mother faced consequences for her involvement in her son’s tragic demise.
Kristie Lee Willmot’s infant, Michael Willmot, tragically lost his life in 2021 at just 37 days old. Willmot, alongside her partner at the time, Robert Alan Gee, faced initial murder charges following the discovery of the unresponsive baby in a Logan carpark. However, they both admitted to lesser charges during their recent court appearance.
Willmot admitted to committing cruelty against children under 16 between June 10-15, 2021, while Gee pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter. The court learned that Willmot left baby Michael in Gee’s care for a brief period while she went to acquire drugs for a friend.
During this short absence, Michael became agitated, leading Gee to violently shake him and throw him onto a couch. Despite sending a message to Willmot claiming the baby was fine and asleep, Michael’s health deteriorated over the following days. Willmot, instead of seeking medical help, recorded symptoms on her phone and discussed the situation with Gee via text.
Eventually, on June 14, 2021, Michael ceased breathing and was pronounced dead by paramedics, four days after the initial injuries. An autopsy revealed severe injuries consistent with violent shaking.
The court acknowledged that Willmot failed to fulfill her duties as a mother, causing harm to her child during that period. While she cooperated with the authorities, she concealed her drug-related activities during the incident.
Although not directly responsible for the child’s death, Willmot’s negligence contributed to the tragic outcome. The judge emphasized that she should have recognized the severity of the situation as Michael’s condition worsened.
As a result, Willmot received a four-year suspended jail sentence, having already served time in custody. Gee’s sentencing is scheduled for November 13.
