Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson Face Title Loss Amid Scandal

Must read

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have resided together for more than two decades despite their divorce in 1996. Following their split, Ferguson has described their relationship as the “happiest divorced couple” scenario.

In recent times, their association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has drawn significant criticism. Andrew, 65, has been embroiled in controversy following allegations made on December 30, 2014, regarding his involvement in sexual activities with Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who was a minor at the time and allegedly trafficked by Epstein in March 2001.

During a BBC Newsnight interview in November 2019, Andrew vehemently refuted all accusations leveled against him. He claimed no memory of meeting Virginia and stated he was at a Pizza Express restaurant in Woking on the alleged night. Andrew firmly denies any wrongdoing.

Recently, the scandal-ridden Prince announced his decision to cease using his titles, including Duke of York, after discussions with his brother, King Charles, and other family members. He reiterated his denial of the accusations against him. In November 2019, Andrew had already announced his withdrawal from public duties, expressing regret for his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

By relinquishing his titles, Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, also loses her right to use the title Duchess of York, which she retained post their divorce but relinquished her Royal Highness title as per the divorce settlement in August 1996.

Their residence on the Windsor Castle estate, Royal Lodge, has faced challenges, with issues such as deteriorating rendering, paint peeling off, and the presence of black mold in some areas. The property, valued at around £31 million, boasts 30 rooms, including seven bedrooms, and has been home to Andrew and their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, since 2004.

Despite its location within the Windsor Castle estate, the Met’s royal protection branch has been observed at the gates, indicating security measures in place. It has been reported that efforts have been made to persuade Andrew to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, previously occupied by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but Andrew is resolute in maintaining his occupancy at Royal Lodge.
