As the deadline approaches, thousands of households have a limited time to secure £100 worth of supermarket vouchers offered by Nottingham City Council through the Household Support Fund. The application window closes at midnight, so act quickly.
While the council has not specified the exact eligibility requirements, it is anticipated that individuals with low income or those receiving benefits will likely qualify for the vouchers. Applications can be submitted on the Nottingham City Council website.
The council aims to inform applicants via email by December 12, with voucher distribution potentially extending until February 28, 2026. The 10,000 vouchers will be randomly allocated to successful households, irrespective of previous receipt of council vouchers since April 2025.
Councillor Cheryl Barnard, Executive Member for Children, Young People, and Education, expressed satisfaction with the additional £1 million allocated to support vulnerable Nottingham residents during the winter months. This financial aid aims to alleviate the financial strain faced by households amidst rising living costs.
The Household Support Fund, part of a £742 million funding allocation for local councils across England, assists vulnerable households with essential expenses like energy bills and food. Residents facing financial difficulties are encouraged to seek support from their local council, as various schemes and aid avenues are available.
Different councils are providing assistance tailored to their communities. For instance, Wakefield Council is issuing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax support. Pensioners receiving Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households.
Blackpool Council is distributing £200 in energy assistance to qualifying households of one or two individuals, including children, and £300 to households of three or more people. To qualify for support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and challenges in meeting bill payments, along with providing recent bank statements for all household members.
