A young woman named Kira Cousins has sparked controversy by allegedly using artificial intelligence to create a video of a lifelike fake baby. The video, shared online, depicted what appeared to be a sleeping newborn moving. This was just one of many deceptive actions by the 22-year-old, who also staged a gender reveal event with pink confetti, sported a false baby bump for an extended period, and showcased baby clothing on social media.
Additionally, Kira showcased a pricey £1,000 stroller supposedly gifted by her family and previously shared a video mimicking a baby’s movements by moving her stomach to simulate kicks. She reportedly claimed the birth of a baby girl named Bonnie-Leigh in a social media post in October but was later accused of using a realistic reborn doll to fabricate the entire scenario.
The facade started to crumble when Kira’s mother discovered the doll alone in her bedroom, realizing it lacked any semblance of real baby behavior. Kira eventually confessed that her mother had found out the truth about the doll. In a TikTok post, she addressed the situation, admitting to the deception and emphasizing that her family did not condone her actions.
Reborn dolls are intricately crafted to resemble real babies, with some advanced models featuring electronic functions like heartbeats and breathing sounds. Some owners utilize AI, digital filters, and camera effects to create the illusion of movement in videos, despite the physical doll remaining static. These dolls, created through a process known as “reborning,” are sold for prices ranging from £30 to £2,000.
A TikTok video montage featuring the fake baby garnered over three million views. Kira’s friend Naeve McRobert, who shared the video, expressed disbelief upon discovering the truth, as Kira had deleted all evidence of Bonnie-Leigh from their conversations. The friend recounted confronting the baby’s supposed father, who confirmed that it was indeed a doll. The deception extended to Kira even falsely claiming the doll had passed away, leaving many feeling deceived after months of believing her fabricated story.
