The family of a young girl who was brutally assaulted and killed by a 27-year-old woman has stated that the girl’s father passed away due to overwhelming sorrow stemming from the tragic incident.
Shortly after being reported missing in October 2022, the lifeless body of 12-year-old Lola Daviet was discovered mutilated and concealed in a plastic container outside their residential building in Paris.
Following a conviction for rape, torture, and murder, Algerian-born Dahbia Benkired was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 30 years. This verdict marked the first instance in French legal history where a woman received a whole-life sentence.
Court proceedings revealed that Benkired likely carried out the heinous act as retribution against the girl’s mother for denying her access to the building.
Controversy emerged in France after it was revealed that Benkired had overstayed her student visa and faced deportation but remained in the country. Lola’s parents disapproved of politicizing their daughter’s tragic fate.
The girl’s father, Johan Daviet, tragically passed away at 49, reportedly succumbing to grief and the emotional turmoil following his daughter’s murder.
Before his death, he left a poignant message on Benkired’s door expressing his love and confusion over the cruelty inflicted upon his daughter.
During the trial, Lola’s brother, Thibault Daviet, spoke on behalf of the family, emphasizing the need for truth and justice.
Evidence presented in court included CCTV footage showing Benkired handling the victim’s body in public after the crime. The victim suffered numerous wounds, with asphyxiation cited as the cause of death.
Family members left the courtroom as graphic images of Lola’s injuries were displayed, highlighting the extent of the trauma she endured.
Benkired was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, bringing some closure to the devastating case.
