Nigel Farage is under renewed pressure to address a situation where one of his Members of Parliament seemed to equate supporting LGBT rights with endorsing Hamas. The controversial comments made by Danny Kruger, as reported by The Mirror, were strongly criticized by a Labour MP as being unacceptable. Kruger, who defected from the Conservative Party to Reform UK, caused a stir by suggesting a future scenario where the UK could be governed by an alliance that supports both LGBT rights and Hamas.
During a Reform UK promotional event streamed on YouTube, Kruger expressed concerns about a potential coalition of parties in the UK, including Lib Dems, Labour, Greens, and nationalists from Wales and Scotland, with a reference to Corbyn. Labour’s Peter Swallow raised objections in the House of Commons, emphasizing the importance of LGBT rights as a core aspect of British values. As a gay MP, Swallow highlighted the difference between supporting LGBT rights and endorsing a terrorist organization like Hamas.
Swallow urged fellow MPs to reaffirm the significance of upholding LGBT rights to Kruger and the Reform party, stressing that such rights are intrinsic to British values and the principles of Parliament. In response to the controversy, the Mirror reached out to Reform for comments. Kruger, son of TV personality Prue Leith, reiterated his concerns about a potential political landscape dominated by what he described as a detrimental mix of forces, including Hamas support and LGBT advocacy.
Kruger’s statements drew criticism from Polly Billington, Labour MP for East Thanet, who condemned his remarks as divisive and harmful, particularly towards the LGBT community. She called for Nigel Farage to denounce Kruger’s comments, emphasizing the negative impact they could have on communities.
