Louvre Heist Arrests Prematurely Revealed

Must read

French public prosecutor expresses frustration over premature disclosure of arrests in Louvre jewellery heist case. Laure Beccuau condemns the revelation for hindering the ongoing investigation involving stolen jewellery. While not disclosing the number of arrests, Beccuau mentions one suspect was apprehended at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. Reports indicate a second individual was also detained in the Paris region. The whereabouts of the stolen jewels remain undisclosed.

Both suspects, originally from Seine-Saint-Denis, were swiftly apprehended in targeted police operations after being monitored for days. One suspect was intercepted just before attempting to leave the country. The suspects are under pre-trial detention for investigation into “organised theft” and “criminal conspiracy to commit a crime,” with a maximum detainment period of 96 hours. Further details will be shared by Beccuau post the custody period.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez commends the investigators for their relentless efforts, emphasizing the need for continued discreet investigations. The suspects are believed to be part of the gang behind the daring daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum, where valuable royal items, including necklaces and a diamond brooch, were stolen. Despite dropping and damaging the emerald crown during the escape, it was later recovered.
