A severe weather event named Storm Benjamin poses a significant risk to life as it is expected to bring wind gusts of up to 70mph across eight counties in the UK. Meteorologists have issued an Amber weather warning, indicating a potential danger to life, for Thursday.
Storm Benjamin, identified by MeteoFrance, is currently positioned over northern Spain and is forecasted to reach the UK around 6pm today. British Weather Services’ senior meteorologist, Jim Dale, highlighted the severity of the storm, emphasizing the threat posed by strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The storm is anticipated to impact the Southwest first before moving across southern counties, including London and eventually reaching East Anglia and the North Sea. Wind speeds are expected to peak at 60 to 70mph in certain areas, making it particularly hazardous for regions such as East Anglia, Essex, Kent, and parts of London.
The storm’s impact will also be felt in other areas, with gusts of 50 to 60mph forecasted for the home counties, Dorset, Hull, and the Midlands. The most intense conditions are expected in the southeast of the UK, with regions like Essex, Kent, East Anglia, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, and Humberside likely to experience the strongest winds.
Following the storm, Friday is predicted to have sunny intervals and blustery showers, with strong winds persisting, especially along coastal areas. As Storm Benjamin moves away, colder weather is expected over the weekend, with a mix of sunshine and wintry showers in Scotland. Sunday may bring brief periods of dry and bright weather before rain returns later.
