Must read

As the New Year begins, millions of people in the UK celebrated the arrival of 2026 with enthusiasm. If the post-Christmas period has left you feeling a bit down, you might be considering planning some time off or holidays for the upcoming months.

To make the most of your time off, it’s a good idea to schedule your annual leave around the bank holidays in 2026. Wondering when these bank holidays will occur? Check out the complete list of dates below.

The AA has issued a warning to drivers, labeling the first working Monday of the year as “manic Monday” due to an expected increase in breakdowns. Roadside assistance expects over 22 million car journeys and advises motorists to inspect their vehicles, especially if they were unused during the holiday season.

Last year, the AA reported a 27% rise in breakdown requests on the first working Monday compared to the same day in February. Shaun Jones, an AA expert, highlighted the stress of returning to work after the festive season, emphasizing the importance of vehicle maintenance to avoid unexpected car troubles.

Planning and preparing your car before heading back to work can alleviate some of the stress associated with the post-holiday rush.
