The highly anticipated ceasefire in Gaza has been shattered as the Israeli Prime Minister instructed his troops to launch substantial attacks on the Palestinian enclave. This action came after the Israeli PM accused Hamas of breaching the peace agreement, while Hamas retaliated by alleging that Israel had violated the ceasefire 125 times.
Israel reported that a coffin delivered by Hamas on Monday did not contain the expected remains of a deceased hostage. This development marked the end of the two-week ceasefire, leading to a surge in violence and the issuance of large-scale strikes.
Officials in Gaza stated that since the ceasefire began on October 10, Israel has caused the deaths of 94 Palestinians within the Strip. Hamas criticized Israel on Tuesday for allegedly creating false reasons to justify further aggressive actions in Gaza.
Hamas accused Israel of impeding efforts to search for bodies in the Strip and urged mediators to allow humanitarian tasks to proceed without political interference. Palestinians in Gaza are now apprehensively awaiting potential renewed attacks by Israel.
Incidents of heavy gunfire and explosions were reported in Rafah, southern Gaza, earlier on Tuesday. Israel claimed that Hamas had misidentified the remains of a recently returned captive, whose body had been recovered two years prior.
The conflict between Israel and Gaza has resulted in at least 68,527 fatalities and 170,395 injuries since its inception in October 2023. During the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, 1,200 individuals were killed in Israel, and around 200 were taken captive.
The October 7 attacks prompted Israel to engage in conflicts with various groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah, Yemeni Houthis, pro-Iran Iraqi militias, and Syrian factions. These events also led to joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year, targeting Tehran’s nuclear facilities.
Many of the enemy forces of Israel, which are backed by Iran, have been severely weakened, potentially taking years to recover their former capabilities. The Iranian regime’s supporters have also suffered significant losses due to prolonged confrontations with Israel, resulting in a weakened Hamas in Gaza.
Critics have accused Netanyahu of provocation aimed at undermining the ceasefire agreement. Muhammad Shehada, an analyst with the European Council on Foreign Relations in Copenhagen, accused Netanyahu of attempting to resume hostilities in Gaza through various tactics.
Both parties have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, necessitating substantial diplomatic efforts to salvage the peace agreement. It is reported that US President Donald Trump is closely monitoring the extent of Israeli military actions against Gaza.
