Must read

Brookside icon Ricky Tomlinson has made a comeback to the Channel 4 drama after a hiatus of 37 years, reuniting with Sue Johnston, who plays Sheila Grant.

The 85-year-old Ricky, accompanied by a production team, has revisited the renowned cul-de-sac for a special episode celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Hollyoaks.”

The Grants, who were pivotal in the inception of Brookside when it premiered on Channel 4 in 1982, quickly endeared themselves to audiences as a family settling into their first home with three children.

Ricky and Sue, who later collaborated on the BBC sitcom “The Royle Family,” are set to revive their roles as Sheila Grant, later Corkhill, and trade unionist Bobby Grant, who left the show in 1988.

This special episode marks the first appearance of Brookside Close since the series concluded in 2003.

Taking to Instagram, Ricky shared behind-the-scenes snapshots from the filming, including shots of the on-screen couple outside their home and in a van with a production team member holding a ‘Hollyoaks’ clapperboard.

Fans eagerly commented on the posts, expressing excitement and admiration for the legendary duo.

Ricky expressed his joy at rejoining the show, emphasizing his anticipation of working alongside Sue Johnston again. Sue, 81, echoed his sentiments, reminiscing about her enjoyable time as Sheila.

All Brookside episodes have been digitally remastered and are now available on STV Player, thanks to a collaborative effort between Lime Pictures and All3Media International.

The highly anticipated Hollyoaks and Brookside crossover episode is scheduled to air in October.
