A popular streaming app that provided free access to a variety of content has officially ceased its operations. This closure will impact Fire TV Stick and other streaming device owners starting today.
The app in question is Amazon’s Freevee platform, a long-standing service favored by those avoiding monthly subscription fees. Up until now, users could enjoy shows like Jury Duty, Alex Rider, Bosch: Legacy, and Hell’s Kitchen USA without any cost, supported by advertisements.
As of September 1, Freevee’s extensive content library has transitioned to Prime Video. Users previously utilizing Freevee now need to install the Prime Video app and log in with their Amazon account.
A notification within the Freevee app informed customers that Prime Video is the new exclusive destination for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV. While the Freevee app remains accessible until August 2025, users are encouraged to continue watching their favorite Freevee Originals and content on Prime Video for free, without requiring a subscription.
Although there are no additional charges, Freevee users will encounter box sets and movies on Prime Video that may necessitate a Prime subscription or a one-time fee. This shift may potentially entice Freevee users to subscribe to Prime Video or opt for movie rentals.
Existing Prime Video account holders will benefit from the consolidation of Amazon content within one app, simplifying the browsing experience compared to the current setup that involves navigating both Freevee and Prime Video apps.
