“Israeli Authorities Hand Over Bodies of 30 Palestinians in Progress of Ceasefire Deal”

Must read

Israeli authorities have delivered the bodies of 30 Palestinians following the return of two hostages by Hamas militants in Gaza. Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis has confirmed receiving the bodies but has not provided details on their condition or identities.

This exchange of remains marks progress in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement, despite recent Israeli strikes in Gaza that resulted in over 100 Palestinian casualties, mostly civilians. The airstrikes were a response to the killing of an Israeli Defense Force soldier by a sniper and allegations of Hamas returning body parts of a previously retrieved hostage.

The origins of the bodies returned by Israel remain unclear, whether they were killed in Israel, died in Israeli custody, or were recovered from Gaza during the conflict. Gaza health officials have faced challenges in identifying the bodies without access to DNA kits.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed the identities of Sahar Baruch and Amiram Cooper, who were taken hostage during the initial Hamas attack that sparked the conflict. The ceasefire, which began on October 10, aims to de-escalate the deadliest and most destructive confrontation between Israel and Hamas.

Hamas has returned the remains of 17 hostages thus far, with more to follow. The ceasefire also includes a warning to Hamas fighters in designated zones to evacuate or face Israeli strikes. The ongoing conflict, triggered by a 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, has resulted in significant casualties and hostilities between the two parties, with conflicting reports on the number of Palestinian deaths.
