Four Members of Parliament who were previously suspended by the Labour Party have been reinstated after discussions with the Chief Whip.
Brian Leishman, Chris Hinchliff, Neil Duncan-Jordan, and Rachael Maskell, who were all elected just last year, had their Labour Party suspensions lifted in July due to repeated breaches of party discipline.
Following a review of their recent conduct, all four MPs have now had the Labour whip restored. They were part of a group of Labour backbenchers who opposed government plans to cut disability benefits in July, a move that was later abandoned after facing significant opposition.
In a statement expressing gratitude, Rachael Maskell stated her commitment to Labour values and advocating for those in need. She emphasized her dedication to working for her constituents in York and addressing issues such as child poverty.
Brian Leishman, representing Alloa and Grangemouth, highlighted the importance of resolving political disagreements and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party. Neil Duncan-Jordan, the MP for Poole, emphasized his long-standing involvement in the Labour and trade union movement.
Chris Hinchliff welcomed the reinstatement and mentioned positive discussions with the new chief whip. He reiterated his focus on serving the North East Hertfordshire community and supporting Labour’s mission to prioritize people and the environment over profit.
The MPs’ reinstatement reflects their commitment to Labour’s principles and their dedication to representing their constituents and upholding party values.
