An individual known for adult films has been convicted of murder for killing her former spouse after marrying her stepson. Devyn Michaels, aged 47, could face life imprisonment for the slaying of Johnathan Willette, aged 46, whose headless body was found covered in chemicals at his residence.
The discovery of Willette’s body, wrapped in blankets and bloodstained, was made by his distressed mother, as detailed in an arrest report. Prosecutors asserted that the Las Vegas adult film star executed the crime due to jealousy towards Willette, who had obtained full custody of their two children.
During Michaels’ trial, prosecutor John Giordani cautioned the jury to brace themselves for compelling evidence, showcasing crime scene photographs, including one depicting the victim’s remains. Michaels confessed to striking Willette with a candlestick-like object during a massage session in his bedroom, as revealed in court footage, leading to his demise.
Subsequently, Michaels confessed to decapitating her former spouse and relocating the head to her own residence before disposing of it in a nearby bin post the August 2023 incident. The motive behind the gruesome act, according to prosecutor Brittni Griffith, was Michaels’ desire to eliminate Willette, despite his intentions of reuniting with her and their son.
Michaels and Willette had a tumultuous relationship, sharing two daughters. Although they divorced in 2018, Michaels shockingly married Willette’s son, Deviere Willette, aged 29, in what she described as a strategic union. Deviere denied any involvement in his father’s death, refuting allegations presented by Michaels’ defense team.
No trace of Willette’s head or the murder weapon was ever recovered, leading Michaels’ attorneys to argue against her capability to carry out such a heinous act. Initially pleading guilty to second-degree murder under a plea agreement, Michaels later retracted her admission, resulting in a trial for first-degree murder that culminated in a guilty verdict by the jury.
During the trial, it was asserted that Michaels orchestrated the murder to establish a future with her children and Willette’s son. The sentencing for Michaels is scheduled for January 8, where she faces a potential life sentence with or without parole, as prosecutors opted not to pursue the death penalty.
