Sainsbury’s has decided to discontinue its Chop Chop rapid delivery app and merge its services into the main Sainsbury’s app. Launched in 2016, Chop Chop aimed to deliver groceries within 60 minutes for a premium fee and operated in 50 Sainsbury’s stores.
Customers who regularly used the Chop Chop app may have noticed that it has been removed, redirecting them to the main Sainsbury’s app when attempting to download it. Jim Banks, head of experience design at Sainsbury’s, explained that the integration was done to simplify the shopping experience for customers. He expressed his gratitude to the teams involved in the process and emphasized the move’s significance in streamlining the shopping ecosystem.
Chop Chop had been a competitor to Tesco’s Whoosh rapid delivery service, promising deliveries in as little as 20 minutes. In other news within the UK supermarket industry, Co-op has announced the opening of 18 new or upgraded stores in the first quarter of 2026.
The first new Co-op store of the year will be located in Willowbrook Park, Didcot in Oxfordshire. Additionally, several stores are set to reopen after renovations, including locations in Coventry and London. Kate McCrae, Co-op’s Operations Director, highlighted the company’s focus on community engagement and providing quality products at value prices.
Co-op also revealed plans to initiate thousands of new apprenticeships over the coming years through a £70 million commitment to create 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030.
