As temperatures drop and evenings darken earlier, winter seems to be approaching, bringing the possibility of snow in some regions today. The latest GFS weather model indicates that parts of Scotland, particularly the Highlands including Inverness and the Cairngorms, may experience snowfall throughout the day.
The most intense snowfall is expected around 6pm, with areas highlighted in purple on the weather maps showing where snow is likely to accumulate. Although some areas could see snow falling at a rate of 10cm per hour, the maps suggest only about 1cm will settle on the ground.
According to the BBC Weather forecast, the afternoon will bring variable cloud cover with scattered showers in the north, while northern Scotland will experience wetter conditions. The evening will be mostly cloudy with patchy rain and showers moving east across Northern Ireland and Scotland, turning cloudier elsewhere with rain expected in parts of southern England and Wales.
Tomorrow will be breezy with lingering rain in southern England, while other areas can expect a mix of sunny spells, patchy cloud, and scattered showers, particularly heavy in Scotland at times.
Looking ahead to Thursday to Saturday, conditions are predicted to start bright but turn cloudy with increasing winds and blustery rain from the south and west on Thursday. Friday will see rain clearing to the northeast briefly before more rain and strong winds move in from the southwest later. The weekend is expected to bring a clearing of rain to sunshine and showers.
The Met Office’s late November forecast anticipates unsettled conditions initially across the UK with showers, longer spells of rain, and a risk of strong winds. Temperatures are forecasted to be around normal, with the second half of November likely to see increasing dry and fine weather, alongside overnight fog and frost. Wet spells are more probable in the northern regions of the UK.
