The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have emerged victorious in a legal dispute against a French magazine over an intrusive article and unauthorized paparazzi images. The photos, released by Paris Match, captured William and Kate, along with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, enjoying a vacation in the Alps in April.
The magazine has been directed by the court to admit the privacy violation in its publication and cover the legal expenses of William and Kate in France. Although compensation was requested, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opted for a “judicial notice” to be issued instead.
A French court has mandated the publication to declare the breach of privacy, with a penalty of €10,000 per issue until compliance is met.
An official spokesperson from Kensington Palace released a statement today confirming the legal victory of William and Kate. The couple emphasized their commitment to safeguarding their “private family time” and expressed readiness to take necessary measures to protect their boundaries.
The statement read, “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have successfully concluded legal proceedings in France against the publisher of Paris Match for publishing an overly intrusive article and unauthorized paparazzi photos of their private family vacation in the Alps in April.
“The ruling reaffirms that, despite their public roles as members of The Royal Family, Their Royal Highnesses and their children deserve privacy and family time without unwarranted intrusion and interference.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge remain dedicated to preserving their private family time and ensuring their children can grow up without undue scrutiny. They are prepared to take any necessary actions to maintain these boundaries.”
In April, Paris Match released the paparazzi photos of the Cambridge family, which were subsequently shared on its social media platforms. Kensington Palace responded promptly.
The court ruling found that the article and images violated the family’s privacy and directed Paris Match to publish a judicial notice and cover the legal expenses of Kate and William. The couple was represented in France by Alain Toucas-Massillon, appointed through their British legal representatives, Mishcon de Reya.
Back in 2012, the couple also took legal action against the French magazine Closer for publishing photographs of them during a holiday in the country. This occurred after <a aria
