Sabrina Gervais, a mother, healthcare professional, and experienced flag football player, is aiming to fulfill her dream of becoming an Olympian. Leading Canada’s national women’s team at the 2026 world championship, she is not only eyeing a gold medal but also a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, where flag football will make its Olympic debut.
Gervais expressed her excitement, stating, “It would be realizing a dream I would’ve never dreamt before. I never thought about the Olympics, but now that I’m still in the loop, I think the chances are good if I can stay healthy and continue to be a leader for my team. That would definitely be a dream come true.”
The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championship kicks off in Düsseldorf, Germany, with Canada facing Panama and Brazil before a match against Japan. The top-two teams in the tournament will secure Olympic berths, with a possible third spot if the United States reaches the gold-medal game as the host nation.
Canada, which secured its place in the world championship by finishing as runners-up in the IFAF Americas Continental championship last year, is considered a strong contender for the gold in Germany. Despite losing to Mexico in the previous championship, Gervais is optimistic about Canada’s chances for a successful rematch.
With years of experience in flag football and balancing her roles as a mother of twins and a healthcare professional, Gervais remains focused on leading and mentoring younger players. She attributes Canada’s success to the team’s chemistry and unity on both offense and defense.
