“Ronaldo Hinting at Retirement After Current Saudi Season”

Must read

Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that the current Saudi Pro League season could mark the end of his illustrious playing career. The 41-year-old star’s contract with Al-Nassr in Riyadh, inked in December 2022, is set to expire in June. In an interview with Vogue magazine, Ronaldo expressed that he is unlikely to sign another contract, stating, “This is probably my final year in football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy.”

Having netted a total of 976 career goals, the Portuguese forward recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez. Ronaldo shared his future plans, saying, “I have everything planned out. There are numerous activities to keep me occupied because when football ends, it leaves a significant void that needs to be filled with various pursuits, not just one.”

He added, “I plan to have more fun, travel extensively, indulge in my passion for padel, and continue to relish the rewards of my hard work over the past 25 years, which involved immense sacrifices.”

Ronaldo, now in his 25th professional season, boasts an impressive record of five Ballon d’Or accolades and five UEFA Champions League triumphs. His exceptional performance last season, with 28 league goals, contributed to Al-Nassr clinching the Saudi Arabian championship in May, securing his first title since joining the club and the team’s first league victory since 2019.

Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s season opener as they defended their title with a 3-0 victory against Al-Fateh. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s presence and support, emphasizing his importance to the team.

Looking ahead, Ronaldo may feature in the upcoming King’s Cup match against Al-Diriyah on Tuesday, with Postecoglou highlighting the significance of recovery given the tight match schedule.

Ronaldo’s contemplation of retirement aligns with longtime rival Lionel Messi’s recent sentiments. Messi, 39, shared uncertainties about his future in football following his father’s passing, expressing doubts about his continued involvement in the sport.
