Canada’s dynamic duo, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, showcased their skills in the Montreal Elite beach volleyball pro tour event, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a commanding 21-13, 21-18 victory over Brazil’s Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes.
The Toronto-based Olympic silver medallists maintained their perfect record, now standing at 3-0 and leading in Pool A. Wilkerson emphasized their strategic approach, strong communication, and resilience on the court. She highlighted their focus on battling through challenges throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Lea Monkhouse from Mississauga and Marie-Alex Belanger from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez faced setbacks, losing two matches and dropping to a 0-3 record.
In the men’s competition, Sam Schachter from Richmond Hill and Jonny Pickett from Wiarton suffered a close defeat of 21-13, 23-21 against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Lima. Despite this loss, the Canadian pair secured a spot in the playoffs with a 1-2 standing.
On the other hand, Steve Abrams from Georgetown and Cameron Chadwick from Barrie faced tough competition, ending their matches at 0-3 after a challenging 21-23, 21-18, 15-12 match against Americans Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh.
The tournament action will continue at Parc Jean-Drapeau until Sunday, offering thrilling matchups and intense competition for beach volleyball enthusiasts.
