People with gastrointestinal health issues may qualify for up to £749.80 every four weeks from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Recent data from the DWP indicates that more than 36,000 individuals in the UK are receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for such ailments.
Individuals may be eligible for PIP if they have a long-standing physical or mental health condition, regardless of their employment status or other benefits they receive. The amount granted per week is based on the level of difficulty faced in daily tasks and mobility. Notably, reports suggest that DWP state pensioners could receive an additional £352 without any cost.
Those eligible for higher PIP payments could receive between £29.20 and £187.45 weekly, translating to £116.80 to £749.80 monthly, over a four-week payment cycle. Many potential claimants may hesitate due to uncertainty about qualifying conditions. However, the key factor in determining financial support is how the condition impacts daily life.
The DWP recognizes various gastrointestinal disabilities as qualifying conditions for PIP, including diseases of the stomach, colon, small bowel, and rectum, among others. Qualifying ailments also cover conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, abdominal hernias, and benign tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.
PIP consists of two components: daily living and mobility. Eligibility for the daily living part is based on the need for assistance with certain tasks, while the mobility component considers challenges in moving around, not limited to physical disabilities.
To apply for PIP, individuals can contact the DWP, with application details available on GOV.UK. For assistance with understanding or applying for PIP, resources such as easy-read guides, Citizens Advice support, and video guides in British Sign Language are available.
