Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident outside a renowned soccer club when they were unloading glass panels from a truck in the Hitchin Town FC parking lot, an establishment with a long history in English football. Emergency services arrived at the scene around 2 pm and sadly confirmed the deaths of both men, while another person received minor injuries. Hertfordshire Police stated that the fatal accident occurred during the unloading process.
A police spokesperson disclosed, “Officers responded to an incident at Hitchin Town Football Club’s car park at approximately 2 pm on Saturday, September 6, where two men were severely injured while unloading glass panels from a truck in the overflow parking area. Regrettably, two men lost their lives, and their families have been notified and are receiving support.”
A representative from the football club expressed condolences, acknowledging a tragic accident near the grounds that claimed two lives. The authorities are actively investigating the incident, and the club extended sympathy to the families during this difficult time.
Hitchin, the club’s location, holds significance as the hometown of notable Premier League figures like Kevin Phillips and Jack Wilshere. Hitchin Town Football Club currently competes in the Southern League Division One Central and recently progressed to the second round of the FA Cup qualifiers.
In a separate incident earlier in the year, a British holidaymaker faced critical injuries after being crushed by a glass balcony on the Greek island of Crete due to strong winds, necessitating urgent medical attention at Venizelio Hospital following the unexpected incident in Hersonissos.
