Prue Leith’s Cake and Wine Diet: “Bake Off” Weight Loss Strategy

Must read

Prue Leith has disclosed that she tends to shed weight while filming the popular show “Bake Off” by adhering to a regimen that revolves around consuming only cake and wine.

The 83-year-old judge, who succeeded Mary Berry on the show in 2017, admitted to gaining weight during her initial years on the program. Consequently, she decided to restrict her diet to cake and wine exclusively while filming to avoid a repeat of the weight gain.

During a podcast in 2023, she elaborated on her cake-only diet during filming, emphasizing that a single bite of cake combines the various flavors and textures, making it a satisfying option for her. She mentioned skipping breakfast and lunch entirely during this period.

Prue expressed her occasional struggle to limit herself to just one bite due to arriving at work hungry, contrasting her approach with fellow judge Paul Hollywood’s more disciplined eating habits.

While she remains steadfast in skipping breakfast and lunch, she confessed to feeling irked when her husband attempts to tempt her with morning foods. The only indulgence she refuses to forgo is a couple of glasses of wine in the evening.

Prue has been vocal about the obesity crisis in the UK, particularly among children, citing concerning statistics. Despite the rise in the popularity of weight loss injections like Ozempic in the US and UK, she criticized such methods for detracting from the enjoyment of life and advocated for embracing healthy cooking practices instead.

She emphasized the importance of fostering a love for nutritious food, especially among children, to combat the allure of convenient yet unhealthy options. While the NHS recommends a balanced diet and regular exercise for weight management, it cautions against skipping meals in favor of less nutritious alternatives like cake and advises against excessive alcohol consumption.

The NHS also acknowledges the need for weight loss medication in certain cases but stresses the importance of promoting healthy eating habits for long-term well-being.
