Olivia Colman Reveals Dislike for Theater Work

Must read

Olivia Colman, known for her remarkable performances in various roles, recently shared her dislike for a particular type of acting job. During an episode of Dish, a podcast by Waitrose & Partner’s, where she was joined by fellow actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia mentioned her aversion to theater work.

She expressed her struggle with prolonged theater performances due to her short attention span. Olivia admitted finding it challenging to repeat the same lines for months, leading to a mix of fear and boredom once the initial apprehension faded away. She humorously recalled a time when a fire alarm interrupted a play, briefly providing relief before they had to resume the performance.

Despite her success in TV and film, Olivia has only participated in four theatrical plays throughout her career. Her latest project, “The Roses,” is a satirical black comedy loosely based on the film “The War of the Roses,” where she plays Ivy opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s character.

In an upcoming TV adaptation of “Pride & Prejudice,” Olivia will portray Mrs. Bennet, alongside Emma Corrin as Lizzie and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy. Both Olivia and Benedict emphasized their preference for television as a medium for acting, citing its broader audience reach and impact compared to stage performances.
