Allied Pharmacies, a prominent high street pharmacy chain, has successfully rescued 60 branches of a competitor from financial collapse. The management of 60 Jhoots Pharmacies sites has been taken over by Allied Pharmacies, with most locations currently closed. However, Allied has reassured the public of its firm commitment to reinstating essential pharmacy services at these branches.
This strategic acquisition now expands Allied’s network to approximately 210 branches across England and Wales, as reported by C+D. Emphasizing the vital role of community pharmacies in public health, Allied expressed its dedication to swiftly restoring pharmaceutical services at the newly acquired sites, prioritizing the needs of local communities.
Recent concerns were raised by MPs regarding the closure of some Jhoots pharmacies, which could potentially deprive communities of essential healthcare access. Reports indicated financial challenges faced by staff due to payment delays. The ownership of Jhoots Pharmacies is shared between brothers Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty, with an estimated 150 branches operating in the UK.
Manjit Jhooty, through his companies Pasab and Jhoots Healthcare, maintains ownership of over 20 Jhoots branches, denying any operational issues. On the other hand, Sarbjit Jhooty, who reportedly owns the remaining 129 branches, acknowledged workforce and recruitment challenges and assured ongoing efforts to address these issues. Jhoots has been approached for further comments by the Mirror.
