“Benidorm Street Transforms into Waterway Amid Sudden Downpour”

Must read

In a surprising turn of events, a street in Benidorm transformed into a waterway during a heavy downpour of rain. Tourists were taken aback by the sudden deluge that occurred around 3 pm on Tuesday, breaking the streak of sunny weather experienced in the region for months. Footage captured by the Mirror showed a man playfully trying to navigate through the flooded street, while another scene depicted a police car guiding a large green bin back to its original spot after it had drifted away.

Andy Forrest, a retail manager from North Shields, currently vacationing in Benidorm with his spouse, described the event as chaotic. He recounted witnessing the sky open up with rain, turning the street into a flowing river. Andy was amazed to see a large bin gliding down the road, questioning his own eyes at the sight.

Reflecting on the weather shift, Andy remarked on the stark contrast between the torrential rain of the previous day and the scorching heat of the present day, making it hard to believe that rain had fallen just the day before.

Barbu Cornel, also known as Gogo and the proprietor of Benidorm’s White Horse pub, captured the moment when the police car intervened to return the stray bin. He noted that the rain lasted for approximately an hour, with the skies clearing up just ten minutes after the incident.

Witnesses inside the White Horse pub, where beers are offered at a mere two euros during the day and Northern Soul tunes play, found amusement in the unusual weather occurrence. The customers were seen laughing and enjoying the spectacle, adding a touch of fun to the unexpected rainfall.

Elsewhere in Spain, adverse weather conditions affected regions like the Balearic Islands, prompting the activation of emergency measures due to heavy rain and strong winds reaching up to 62mph. Majorca experienced a rapid downpour, with reports indicating significant rainfall within short timeframes, leading to flooding and damage to property and infrastructure.

In another part of Europe, Severe Weather Europe highlighted the risk of intense rainfall in specific areas around the north-central Mediterranean, with potential tornadoes looming along the western coast of Italy. Tuscany faced its share of challenges as cars were submerged in flooded areas, forcing some residents to seek refuge on rooftops to evade rising water levels.

The situation was particularly severe in Avenza, Marina, and Fossone, where water inundated lower levels of buildings, causing pavements to buckle in certain sections. Motorists in affected areas were advised to evacuate vehicles and seek higher ground, while air travelers faced delays at Palma Airport due to the disruptive weather conditions.
