A car accident outside a popular resort in Ibiza has left a British tourist hospitalized after three young holidaymakers were hit by a jeep. The incident occurred on Calle Moli, in front of the On the Bay restaurant at the Playa des Pouet resort in Ibiza, Spain. Witnesses reported that the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon veered off the road, striking the three young women, and causing damage to a lamppost before coming to a stop near a pedestrian crossing.
Upon the accident, onlookers rushed to the scene before emergency services arrived, with lifeguards from Playa des Pouet providing initial assistance. Subsequently, local police patrols and ambulances from the 061 Emergency Service arrived to treat and transport the injured women to a medical facility.
Reports indicate that one of the injured women is a British tourist, while the identities of the others remain undisclosed. Eyewitnesses noted that two of the victims appeared to be in serious condition, while the third suffered foot injuries. The driver, a young man believed to be around 30 years old, is currently being questioned by authorities as they investigate the details of the accident.
A spokesperson from San Jose Town Hall confirmed that the detained driver is Irish, but additional information regarding the nationalities of the women involved has not been disclosed. The driver faces charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs, and offenses related to negligence resulting in fatalities and serious injuries. Investigations are ongoing, with data from the vehicle’s control unit expected to provide further insights into the circumstances leading up to the accident.
The incident has prompted concerns in the area, particularly as it occurred during a time when many people were enjoying the beach and nearby establishments. This incident follows another recent accident involving two British women, Ebony Cordingley, 26, and Lauren Holmes, 27, who were hit by a taxi while in Ibiza. Both women remain in intensive care following the collision between their vehicle and a speeding taxi on a road between Ibiza Town and San Antonio.
Authorities have identified the vehicle involved as a Toyota Corolla driven by a 24-year-old Spaniard. Investigations are ongoing, and the police have not disclosed whether the driver has been arrested. The incident took place on the El-600 road between Ibiza and San Antonio, resulting in serious injuries to both British pedestrians.
