Renowned for his role as Roy Evans on the popular TV series EastEnders, Tony Caunter has passed away at the age of 88, as confirmed by his family. Tributes have poured in following this sad announcement.
Caunter, who portrayed the character of a car dealer from 1994 to 2003, was initially brought in as a love interest for Pat Butcher, played by Pam St Clement, and their on-screen relationship culminated in marriage.
In a statement to the PA news agency, his family expressed their deep sorrow at the loss of Tony Caunter, who peacefully passed away just eight days after his wife of 63 years, Fran, also departed.
The family shared, “At 88, after a rich life on and off the screen, Tony leaves behind a daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His presence will be dearly missed by all.”
They also expressed gratitude for the exceptional care provided to Caunter during his final days by the NHS staff at Eastbourne District General Hospital and the team at Eastbourne Gardens nursing home over the past two months.
