A former Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) who resigned from the House of Commons two years ago has been found deceased at the age of 59. David Warburton, the former MP representing Somerset and Frome, was discovered deceased last week in his Chelsea residence after emergency medical services responded. His passing is considered unexpected, though not suspicious.
Before stepping down from his seat in 2023, Warburton was under scrutiny by Parliament’s watchdog due to allegations of inappropriate conduct from two women. An image surfaced showing the ex-MP seated near what appeared to be cocaine lines on a tray, as reported by the Sunday Times.
Warburton confessed to using cocaine to the Mail on Sunday, attributing it to being manipulated while admitting to naivety and foolishness. Despite the drug use admission, he denied the harassment accusations.
In 2022, he was found to have violated Parliament’s ethics code for failing to disclose a £150,000 loan from a Russian-born businessman for his mortgage deposit. The loan was obtained from a firm in Seychelles owned by Roman Joukovski in 2017 when Warburton and his spouse intended to convert their former residence into a buy-to-let property.
Former Tory MP for Yeovil, Marcus Fysh, expressed sorrow over Warburton’s passing, describing him as a dedicated colleague and advocate for Somerset and the UK. Fysh extended condolences to Warburton’s family and friends, praising his talent, sensitivity, and commitment to serving constituents.
A Metropolitan Police representative confirmed that authorities responded to a call from the London Ambulance Service regarding an incident at Chelsea Crescent, Sands End, on Tuesday, August 26.
Simon Danczuk, another former MP, lamented Warburton’s demise, highlighting his recovery from political challenges and successful endeavors in the business world. Danczuk emphasized the positive trajectory of Warburton’s life before the tragic event.
The circumstances surrounding the sudden passing of the 59-year-old man are being investigated, with no indications of foul play reported. The London Ambulance Service confirmed their response to the incident in Chelsea Harbour, SW10, where the individual was pronounced deceased.
