A woman in business passed away following liposuction surgery in Turkey that left her in a coma. Milena Mancini, aged 50, died in the intensive care unit of Istanbul’s ISU Medical Park Gaziosmanpaşa hospital, 20 days after undergoing a weight loss procedure at a private clinic. She had traveled to Turkey from Italy in September with one of her daughters. About 36 hours post-surgery, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain due to a perforated intestine during the operation, leading to an infection.
Her uncle, Luigi Di Palma, informed Italian media that she encountered complications during surgery, resulting in an infection at the clinic. Her family was unaware of the surgery until she was admitted to intensive care, prompting some members to fly to Turkey to support her. Milena’s health deteriorated, and she remained in a coma for several days until her passing. A post-mortem examination will take place in Italy after her body is repatriated.
Hailing from Isola del Liri, southeast of Rome, Milena ran an estate agency and had recently inaugurated a new branch in Frosinone. She is survived by her husband, daughters, father, and sisters. Described as a determined and warm individual, she was well-regarded by those who knew her. In a separate incident, a young British woman named Ruby Khan, aged 30, died after liposuction and tummy tuck surgery in Turkey encountered complications at a hospital in Izmir. The full inquest into her death is set for October 30.
