This assault occurred in Praia Da Luz, the same location where Madeleine vanished two years later.
According to journalist Ulrich Oppold, Brueckner displays a lack of remorse for his convicted crimes and appears to believe he does not require rehabilitation. During an interview with The Sun, Oppold described Brueckner’s demeanor as “ice cool” when questioned about any regrets regarding past actions. Brueckner evaded the question, stating it was one he preferred not to answer, leading Oppold to perceive a man devoid of guilt or remorse. When confronted about allegations of being a psychopath, Brueckner simply responded, “I’m not dangerous.”
Although Brueckner was identified as the primary suspect in the Madeleine McCann case in 2020, formal charges have not been brought against him, and he maintains his innocence in her disappearance. German authorities are actively investigating his potential involvement, with chief prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters asserting the presence of incriminating evidence. Efforts are underway to identify the caller of a 30-minute call made to Brueckner, a crucial piece of evidence that could potentially lead to his arrest or formal charges, as emphasized by Wolters.
