Must read

NATO scrambled fighter jets in response to Russian aircraft breaching European airspace once again. The incursion involved a Russian Su-30 fighter and II-78 refueling tanker violating Lithuania’s airspace for a brief 18 seconds from the Kaliningrad region. Spanish Eurofighter planes from NATO’s Baltic Air Police were dispatched to intercept and monitor the Russian jets. Lithuania’s President condemned the violation, emphasizing the importance of enhancing European air defense readiness.

President Gitanas Nausėda denounced the breach as a violation of international law and Lithuania’s territorial integrity, underscoring the need to bolster air defense capabilities in Europe. Lithuania’s defense ministry reassured the public of its preparedness and vigilance in a statement following the incident.

The latest airspace violation by Russia has raised concerns in both eastern and western Europe, prompting calls for enhanced security measures. In a recent incident, Russian MiG-31 jets trespassed into Estonian airspace near Vaindloo Island, prompting a swift response from NATO with the deployment of Italian F-35 jets. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal urged a united and robust response to provocations, emphasizing the importance of allied cooperation for shared situational awareness and coordinated actions.

In a separate incident, Polish forces intercepted Russian drones intruding into their airspace following an attack on Ukraine. Lithuania’s military speculated that the recent breach occurred during Russian Su-30 training exercises near Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian enclave bordering Lithuania and Poland.
