A recently born baby girl, still connected to her umbilical cord, was discovered abandoned on the steps of a bustling train station during the Monday morning rush hour. The incident took place at the 34th Street–Penn Station stop in New York City around 9:30 a.m. The individual who found the infant promptly contacted emergency services, leading to a rapid response from authorities.

Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, the baby, who was conscious and alert, was taken to Bellevue Hospital and reported to be in stable condition. Authorities mentioned that surveillance footage is being examined to identify the person responsible for leaving the child, with no arrests made as of Monday afternoon.

New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow referred to the event as the ‘Miracle on 34th Street,’ highlighting the timely discovery of the infant at the 34th Street station. Meanwhile, a separate incident involving a newborn baby girl abandoned in a cardboard box by the roadside is under investigation. The baby, believed to be just hours old, was found in good health and less than a day old in Tuguegarao City, Philippines.

Social worker May Asuncion indicated that the infant, currently stable, will undergo observation at the hospital for up to five days to ensure her well-being. Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the swift response of local citizens and authorities, emphasizing the PNP’s commitment to identifying the individual responsible for abandoning the child.
