“Pacquiao and Mayweather in Talks for Rematch”

Must read

Manny Pacquiao has verified ongoing discussions for a potential rematch with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Negotiations, reportedly spearheaded by Netflix, are in progress to bring together two of the most prominent athletes in recent times.

More than ten years ago, the duo engaged in a highly anticipated fight that generated over £500 million from U.S. pay-per-view sales. Mayweather emerged victorious in a decisive manner, although the bout failed to meet the lofty expectations. Pacquiao attributed his underwhelming performance to a shoulder injury post-fight.

The former eight-division world champion Pacquiao had surprised the boxing world by revealing intentions for a rematch with Mayweather over a year ago. Subsequently, Mayweather demanded a hefty $4 million payment from Pacquiao for prematurely publicizing the talks.

Undeterred, the 46-year-old Filipino senator expressed readiness for a rematch, emphasizing Mayweather’s pivotal role in making it happen. Pacquiao conveyed his willingness to engage in discussions and negotiations for a potential rematch with Mayweather, citing his active status in boxing as a key factor.

Pacquiao highlighted his motivation to return to the ring following his previous fight, expressing gratitude for good health and strength to continue his boxing career. In his most recent bout in July, Pacquiao fought to a draw against Mario Barrios in pursuit of the WBC welterweight title after a four-year hiatus. During this period, Pacquiao remained active with seven fights post his Mayweather defeat.

Contrastingly, Mayweather engaged in only two professional matches against Andre Berto and MMA star Conor McGregor, maintaining a pristine 50-0 record. Apart from these bouts, the 48-year-old has primarily participated in exhibition matches against opponents like Logan Paul and John Gotti III.

Interestingly, Pacquiao excludes Mayweather from his list of top opponents, highlighting Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito as more significant adversaries. Pacquiao criticized Mayweather’s fighting style, citing the lack of action and excitement in their match, which he believes disappointed fans seeking a compelling and competitive encounter.
