The recent Pride of Britain Awards 2025, hosted by The Mirror, honored everyday individuals who have made exceptional contributions to society. One highlight of the evening was when Marcus Skeet, a remarkable charity runner and advocate for mental health, received the Special Recognition Award. To his surprise, pop star Anne-Marie, along with podcast personalities Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson, announced a special GoFundMe campaign in support of mental health charity Mind, named in Marcus’s honor.
The funds raised will be used to establish mental health walking and running groups nationwide under the name “Marcus’s Movers,” each requiring £2,500 for setup. The campaign received an enthusiastic start with Sam and Pete donating £5,000 on stage. Subsequently, Pub Landlord Al Murray rallied other celebrities to contribute, with Dragons Den figure Duncan Bannatyne’s £20,000 donation bringing the total raised that evening to £50,000, sufficient to establish 20 Marcus’s Movers groups.
Marcus, overwhelmed by the generosity, expressed his gratitude, stating the impact of the contributions was profound. The initiative aims to expand Marcus’s Movers groups across various communities in the UK, providing vital mental health support. Marcus’s personal journey, from facing multiple health challenges at a young age to becoming a successful charity fundraiser and award recipient, serves as inspiration.
Having transformed his life through running, Marcus has raised over £200,000 for Mind, including completing a monumental 874-mile run from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Documenting his progress on social media, Marcus hopes to inspire others struggling with mental health issues, emphasizing the positive effects of physical activity on mental well-being.
