“Poundland to End Online Sales in Streamlining Move”

Must read

Poundland has announced that it will cease its online product sales starting from September 16, following a recent acquisition that saw the discount retailer sold for £1. The company will transition its website to a browsing-only platform, discontinuing its online shopping services. Additionally, Poundland will be shutting down its loyalty app, Poundland Perks, on the same date.

Poundland Perks, which allows customers to earn points for purchases that can be converted into vouchers, provides 100 points for every £1 spent on eligible items online or in-store. To redeem a £1 voucher, customers need to accumulate 5,000 points. Existing vouchers can still be used until January 15, 2026.

In a notice posted on its website, Poundland explained that the decision to halt online sales is part of an effort to streamline operations and enhance in-store offerings. The company assured customers of an expanded range of £1 products and weekly new items, despite the discontinuation of online services.

Following its acquisition by investment firm Gordon Brothers, Poundland also disclosed plans to permanently close 68 stores. With approximately 800 stores prior to the sale, Poundland’s store count is expected to decrease to between 650 and 700 due to recent closures and lease expirations.

Furthermore, Poundland will be closing its distribution centers in Darton, South Yorkshire, and Bilston, West Midlands, in early 2026. Retail director Darren MacDonald expressed regret over the store closures but emphasized the necessity to secure jobs and store viability. Poundland aims to support affected employees through a consultation process and explore alternative job opportunities.

Stephan Borchert, Pepco Group chief executive, highlighted the strategic benefits of the Poundland sale in simplifying the group’s operations and focusing on the successful Pepco business. Poundland retains its position as a significant player in the UK discount retail sector, with a strong customer base and brand reputation.

The Pepco Group expressed gratitude to Poundland’s team for their dedication and contribution, wishing them success under new leadership.
