An audacious heist unfolded at the renowned Louvre museum, where daring thieves managed to snatch priceless treasures, exploiting significant security lapses. French authorities confirmed the robbery of invaluable artifacts with historical significance from the iconic Parisian art gallery in a swift operation lasting just seven minutes. The culprits, still at large, made away with artifacts linked to French royalty and colonial figures, breaching the museum’s security by entering and breaking the glass encasements.

The ongoing construction at the Louvre, as part of the government’s Nouvelle Renaissance project, played a pivotal role in facilitating the theft. Exploiting the chaotic construction site facing the River Seine, four masked individuals infiltrated the museum unnoticed at approximately 9:30 am. Leveraging an unattended cherry picker, they accessed the Apollo Gallery jewel room on the first floor, where the prized artifacts were housed.
Upon reaching the Apollo Gallery window, two of the perpetrators utilized a battery-powered disc cutter to penetrate the glass panes, a method reminiscent of Hollywood heist films. The Confederation of Fire Protection Associations Europe highlighted critical security oversights at this stage, emphasizing the necessity of robust security measures such as burglar-resistant windows, iron bars, and police-alerting alarms.
Despite encountering museum guards upon entry to the Apollo Gallery, the thieves managed to intimidate the guards and proceed with their operation without violence. Subsequently, they shattered the display cases containing the valuable jewels. Additionally, a significant security flaw was identified in the lack of CCTV coverage in one of the museum rooms, creating a blind spot that allowed the thieves to evade detection as they exited.
Following the theft, the criminals attempted to set fire to their getaway vehicle but were thwarted by a vigilant museum staff member. Despite the intervention, the thieves escaped on scooters, evading capture.
