A prominent Republican and strong supporter of Donald Trump has suggested that it may be appropriate to consider prosecuting Prince Andrew following an emotional testimony related to the Epstein case. Nancy Mace, a US Representative for South Carolina’s First Congressional District, made the statement after attending a closed-door Oversight Committee briefing where victims of Jeffrey Epstein shared their accounts. Mace, who is also running for Governor of South Carolina, revealed that she experienced a panic attack while listening to the survivors’ stories.
Taking to social media, Mace expressed her thoughts to her large following, proposing that the time is ripe to explore potential legal actions against Prince Andrew in the US. She emphasized the importance of focusing on holding predators accountable and allowing victims and the nation to heal. Prince Andrew has consistently denied the accusations against him.
The lawmaker, known as a rising figure in her party, disclosed that she had to leave the briefing due to the distress caused by the testimonies. She shared her own struggles as a survivor, highlighting the challenges victims face in advocating for themselves. Mace extended her support to all survivors, acknowledging their resilience in fighting for justice.
Mace’s remarks have intensified the pressure on Prince Andrew, who has faced persistent allegations of involvement in the Epstein scandal despite his denials. The call for action follows the public testimony of over 10 Epstein victims, including Teresa Helm Jess Michaels, urging lawmakers to release confidential records shedding light on Epstein’s network of influential connections. This move comes after Trump reversed his promise to disclose the files, sparking suspicions of a cover-up.
The victims’ plea for transparency has been championed by Congressman Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California, and Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, who are leading efforts to unveil the Epstein files completely. They have initiated a “discharge petition” to compel a floor vote by bypassing party leadership, aiming for 218 signatures to achieve a majority in the House of Representatives. While Democrats have largely supported the initiative, gaining six Republican signatures is crucial to its success.
However, garnering bipartisan support faces challenges, as House Speaker Mike Johnson, an ally of Trump, opposes the petition, arguing that the Oversight Committee is already reviewing relevant documents. The White House has also voiced opposition, warning against endorsing the petition as a perceived affront to the administration.
For Prince Andrew, the public outcry from Epstein’s victims in Washington serves as a stark reminder of his association with the disgraced financier. The Duke’s past interactions with Epstein have been scrutinized, including a controversial photograph of them together in Central Park. Accusations of sexual misconduct by Virginia Giuffre have further tainted Andrew’s reputation, leading to a civil settlement in 2022 without an admission of guilt.
