“Sky Q Faces Competition from Humax Aura EZ 4K Recorder”

Must read

Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, has been recognized as one of the top devices in its category. Known for its versatile features like live TV recording, access to premium channels, and popular streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix, Sky is now shifting its focus to internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, signaling a move away from its traditional satellite platform. This move opens up opportunities for new competitors in the market.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a new device that closely resembles Sky Q in terms of functionality. Equipped with a generous 2TB hard drive for storing various TV programs, movies, and sporting events, the Aura EZ offers a rare feature in today’s market with its emphasis on physical recordings.

The Aura EZ’s integration with Freely sets it apart, allowing users to stream live TV over broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content. This flexibility enables easy relocation of the device, straightforward installation, and regular feature updates.

Notable features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio support, and a user-friendly integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the device remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to schedule recordings and browse content from anywhere.

While Freely lacks the premium sports and movie offerings of Sky, it stands out as a free-to-use platform without any subscription fees.

Scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, the Humax Aura EZ comes with a suggested retail price of £249.

In parallel news, Sky has unveiled a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. Priced at £24 per month, customers gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service. This offering aims to provide value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms into a single subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also enjoy over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle comprises:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (effective from March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (starting March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
