Sky Shifts Focus to Streaming: Sky Q Set-Top Box Phased Out

Must read

Sky has announced a significant change in how TV viewing will evolve, possibly marking the decline of the traditional satellite dish. The company has stopped selling its Sky Q set-top box on its website, redirecting new customers to Sky Stream or Sky Glass TVs instead.

In an official statement, Sky emphasized the shift, stating, “We’ve unplugged Sky Q. Plug in Sky Stream for less. Sky Q is no longer available to buy online.” Those attempting to purchase Sky Q will now be encouraged to opt for the more cost-effective Stream box, with Sky promoting, “You can take your viewing to the next level with Sky Stream starting from £15 a month.”

The move to Sky Stream and Sky Glass signifies a transition to internet-based live and on-demand content delivery, eliminating the need for a traditional satellite signal. These options offer quick setup, no need for home visits by engineers for installation, and receive regular updates and new features. The basic Sky Stream package is notably cheaper than Sky Q, with prices starting at just £15 monthly.

The decision to discontinue online sales of Sky Q reflects the changing preferences of consumers, with a shift towards streaming services over traditional satellite TV. Nevertheless, existing Sky Q users need not worry, as the product remains available for purchase through direct calls to Sky or retail outlets.

Sky reassured customers, stating, “Sky Q is no longer available for online purchase, but customers can contact us by phone to order Sky Q or visit our retail stores.” Alternatively, customers can explore the popular streaming options, Sky Glass and Sky Stream, favored by 9 out of 10 new customers.

While Sky Q continues to be a favored choice for many households, the trend towards a streaming-centric future is unmistakably gaining momentum.
