“Struggling with Energy Bills? Check If You Qualify for Up to £500 Assistance”

Must read

Households facing challenges with their energy expenses are being encouraged to verify if they qualify for cost of living assistance worth up to £500. The aid is being provided by Act on Energy, an energy advice charity, to households in Stratford-on-Avon. Eligibility extends to those requiring heating system repairs, replacements, or upgrades, provided their gross household income is under £31,000 and they have a vulnerable individual residing with them. Vulnerabilities may encompass unmanageable debt, long-term health conditions, disabilities, receipt of benefits-related free school meals, pregnancy, or young children under five.

Act on Energy indicated that other vulnerabilities may also be considered for support, emphasizing that individuals uncertain about their eligibility should contact the organization for clarification. Those applying for energy payments must not exceed specific household savings limits. Families with children under 18 could receive up to £500, while single individuals and couples might be eligible for £300. The financial aid is disbursed directly to the energy supplier or as a voucher for prepayment customers. For “Physical Intervention” applications, the savings threshold is up to £6,000 per adult in receipt of a state pension.

Interested parties can apply online via the Act on Energy website or by dialing 0800 988 2881. This initiative coincides with impending increases in energy bills for the upcoming winter season. The price cap is set to rise by 2% starting October, translating to a higher annual energy bill for the average dual fuel household paying by direct debit. The price cap adjustments also impact pre-payment meter users and those paying upon bill receipt.

Notably, while a price cap is in place for unit rates of gas and electricity and standing charges, there is no limit on the total energy expenses. Standing charges are fixed daily fees for network connection, payable irrespective of energy consumption. The price cap undergoes revisions every three months, specifically in January, April, July, and October.
