A tragic incident unfolded during a child’s birthday celebration when a vehicle veered off the road, crashing into a gathering of guests. The accident occurred in Bladensburg, near Washington DC, as attendees were gathered under a white marquee. Suddenly, a light-colored sedan careened through the tent, causing chaos and resulting in one fatality and numerous injuries.
The collision, which involved multiple victims including eight children ranging from one to 17 years old, left a devastating scene with overturned chairs, decorations strewn about, and burst birthday balloons. The deceased victim was identified as Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez from Washington, DC.
In total, 13 individuals sustained injuries, with six children treated at the scene and released, and one child remaining in stable condition at the hospital. Additionally, three adults are receiving medical care following the incident.
The 66-year-old driver initially fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities. Legal actions are now being considered as investigations continue into the circumstances of the crash.
Authorities provided updates on the victims’ conditions, stating that most are in stable condition with a few still receiving treatment. The tragic event has left the community in shock as they come to terms with the aftermath.
