Tragic Crash in Romania: Two Men Killed in Road Collision

A harrowing video captured the moment a truck skidded on a wet road, collided with a car, and trapped two men inside. The driver, aged 42, and his 39-year-old passenger tragically lost their lives in the crash that occurred on DN2/E85 between Cristești and Drăgușeni in Iași County, northeastern Romania on Friday afternoon. The lorry’s trailer veered off, obstructing both lanes after swerving across the road. Despite the car driver’s efforts to brake, the trailer flipped over and smashed into the vehicle.

Thirteen firefighters responded to the scene, utilizing specialized equipment and vehicles for extraction, along with a SMURD ambulance and teams from the Suceava and Iași County Ambulance Services, as reported by Digi24, a Romanian TV channel.

The incident involved four individuals, with the 54-year-old truck driver undergoing a breathalyzer test that showed no presence of alcohol in his system, according to the police. Following a medical evaluation, he declined hospitalization. The Iași County Police Inspectorate issued a statement confirming that a road traffic accident with fatalities took place on October 24 around 2:55 pm in Cristești on DN2/E85. Investigations revealed that the lorry driver, a 54-year-old man from Bistrița-Năsăud County, lost control of the vehicle while traveling from Drăgușeni to Cristești, resulting in the collision with the car driven by a 42-year-old man from Suceava County.

A criminal investigation for manslaughter has been initiated, and authorities are working to establish the complete factors and details surrounding the tragic incident.
