Tragic Plane Crash Claims Two Lives in Venezuela

Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident when a plane flipped shortly after takeoff, ultimately landing on its wing and bursting into flames, causing shock among witnesses. Spectators at the scene of the light aircraft crash were heard screaming as the aircraft, piloted by Jose Antonio Bortone Terife, 50, and co-piloted by Juan Maldonado, 47, veered out of control, nearly turning upside down before crashing onto the runway at Paramillo Aerodrome in San Cristobal, Venezuela.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the accident, with initial theories suggesting a potential tire explosion or pilot error as contributing factors. The aircraft, a Piper Cheyenne 1 with reported ties to the Venezuelan government, was completely destroyed by the ensuing fire.

The National Institute of Civil Aviation of Venezuela confirmed the incident involving the PAY1 aircraft, registration YV1443, which occurred at 9:52 am local time on October 23 at Paramillo Airport in Tachira state. Sadly, both crew members on board perished in the crash, prompting the activation of the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board to determine the root causes of the tragedy.

Jose Antonio Bortone, a seasoned pilot with 30 years of experience and 10,300 flying hours, was remembered fondly by EC Charter, where he was employed. The company praised his dedication, professionalism, and family values, highlighting his passion for aviation and his significant impact within the aviation community.

Additionally, Juan Maldonado, the co-pilot, was commemorated as a skilled educator and aviation enthusiast by Gloria Santana, who expressed deep sorrow over his untimely passing. The aviation community mourns the loss of these two individuals who left a lasting legacy in the industry.
