UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett is leading an initiative to enhance mental well-being through the sport of mixed martial arts.
Pimblett, set for a lightweight title opportunity next year, has been a vocal supporter of mental health awareness. Following his victory over Jordan Leavitt in London in 2022, where he dedicated the win to a friend lost to suicide, Pimblett established The Baddy Foundation. This foundation aims to address food insecurity issues and combat the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
In addition to his efforts, Pimblett has taken on the role of ambassador for UFC’s collaboration with OnSide. This partnership will offer weekly discussions for young individuals, focusing on self-discipline, self-defense techniques, confidence-building, coordination, and mental resilience under the guidance of skilled instructors, all within a nurturing environment.
“Growing up in Liverpool greatly influenced my journey, and it’s a privilege to now represent my city on the grand stage of the UFC. Martial arts opened doors I never imagined possible,” stated Pimblett. “I am honored to endorse this program, providing young people in Wirral the opportunity to discover their passions, boost confidence, and realize their aspirations.”
Jamie Masraff, CEO of OnSide, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with UFC, noting the positive impact of martial arts sessions at Youth Zones. The partnership at The Hive will now expand to focus on well-being support groups, aligning with UFC’s commitment to bolstering mental health among youth. These sessions will create a space for open dialogue, confidence-building, resilience strengthening, and a sense of belonging for young participants.
Reflecting on his personal challenges, Pimblett emphasized the importance of breaking the silence around men’s mental health struggles. He urged individuals facing difficulties to seek help and reach out to others for support, highlighting the significance of communication and solidarity within the community.
